Intimacy: True Worship

Scripture: John 4:23-24 - But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him.
24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.

We were created/designed to worship God in spirit and in truth. (From the Tony Evans Study Bible notes – "To worship the Father in spirit is to have a heart that is in pursuit of an intimate/spiritual relationship with the God who is spirit. To worship God in truth is to worship Him in a biblically accurate way – through the One who is truth.") John 14:6 says, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

Jesus wanted to share/impart with the Samaritan woman God's living water. John 4:13-14 says, "Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life."
Just as Jesus wanted the Samaritan woman to have a transformed life, God seeks out an encounter with us.

Worship is an intimate encounter with who God is. He is holy, righteous, sovereign, loving, gracious, and merciful. When we really realize who God is, it helps us to see who we are not. It helps us to see how sinful we are and how much we need Him to forgive us of our sins.

When we truly worship God, we will have a desire to be obedient, submissive, and we will have a desire for true holiness. Additionally, we will want to share with others about Jesus, as the Samaritan woman did! Not only that, but we will have a desire to forgive others.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord Jesus, for demonstrating the love that You have for me by dying on the cross for my sin.It is a privilege that I can come boldly yet humbly to the throne of grace because of the finished work of Jesus Christ! Help me to freely forgive others as You have forgiven me. I appreciate having an intimate fellowship with You. Help me to continue to draw closer and closer to You. Amen.
