The Word Living in Me

Scripture:  Colossians 3:16-17 - Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

The Word of God is designed to be the solution to every problem that anyone could encounter.  It’s the solution to hatred, anger, greed, jealousy, bitterness, prejudice and violence.  Application of the Word of God is our only hope.  The Word of God has given me a firm foundation for my Christian life.  The Word of God must abide in us richly/abundantly.  We must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God so that it will permeate every aspect of our lives.  When we walk in obedience and authority of the Word, it will control our thoughts/minds and hearts.  (Psalms 119:11 – Thy Word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.)

Firstly, the Word of God is our spiritual weapon to help us defend ourselves against sin in our lives so that we can walk in victory!  (Matthew 4:4 - But He answered and said, It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.)  The devil wants to tear us down and/or wants our character to torn down/destroyed.  God wants to build up our character – help us stand strong as godly men/women/children.  He wants us to represent His kingdom here on earth.

Secondly, the Bible, God’s Word, is the source of God’s divine truth and the power for our spiritual growth.  (II Timothy 3:16 - All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.)  God’s Word (the Old/New Testament) is profitable for doctrine – teaching, divine instruction that is necessary for the Christian life and godly living to help us grow to be more like Jesus Christ.

Thirdly, the Word of God is profitable for reproof – rebuke for wrong behavior.  It exposes our sin.  (Hebrews 4:12-13 - For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.)  I thank the Lord daily for His grace and mercy  (I John 1:9, Psalms 51:1, 2, 10, 17) that causes us to walk in true confession and repentance..

Fourthly, God’s Word in profitable for correction – to help someone who has stumbled or fallen to get back on his feet and to point them back to godly living.

Fifthly, God’s Word is profitable for instruction in righteousness – referring to training in holy living in conformity to God’s will or godly behavior.

As we walk in obedience to the authority of the inerrant Word of God that lives in our hearts and who fills our hearts with joy, we express back to God by singing spiritual songs and hymns!  This brings honor and glory to God!

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for Your Word that saved me through Jesus Christ, that convicts and changes me, and that equips me to serve You and others.  Thank you for working with me and using me for Your glory.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.
