The Gospel Light
John 8:12 - Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
Just as a lighthouse is on a harbor for a captain of a ship – to shine and guide the ship safely into a harbor, so is the gospel light of Jesus Christ the one who shines as a spiritual light to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ for salvation. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and was buried and rose again – was resurrected from the dead on the third day according to the scriptures. ( I Corinthians 15;3-4) Jesus is an example of the true spiritual light. (John 1;3-5) In this passage of scripture we see that darkness did not comprehend it – meaning the darkness of evil never has and never will overcome or extinguish God’s light. Jesus Christ is the creator of life, and His life brings light to mankind. True Christians follow the light of Jesus Christ, which helps to avoid walking blindly and falling into sin. He lights the path ahead of us so that we can see how to live. Only Jesus can remove the darkness of sin from our hearts/lives. God’s word is also our spiritual light that keeps us from walking in darkness and sin. (Psalms 119:105, Psalms 119:130) The light of God’s word exposes the darkness in our hearts, and it causes us to see ourselves for who we really are -- a sinner in need of a Savior. God’s word helps us to see spiritually so that we can see clear enough to stay on the right path. Jesus told the lady in John 8:11 to go and sin no more. Jesus also tells us as true Christians to let our light shine (Matthew 4:14-16) and not to hide it -- but to let it shine before men – that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.
Two ways we hide our light:
(1 ) When we let sin rule in our lives by not confessing or turning away from sin or repentance of sin, and
(2) Compromising our faith to follow worldly friends or by denying the light.
Two ways to let our light shine:
(1 ) Be a witness to others – nonverbally and verbally through our lifestyles;
(2 ) Support missionaries and those ministries at our local churches that reach out to lost souls.
When we follow Jesus Christ, the light of the world, He will lead us in the path that He wants us to go. Are you letting the light of Jesus Christ guide your life?
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Whenever we see a light, please help us to remember that You are that true light that wants to shine through us to tell others how the true light of salvation has changed our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Gospel is gracefully bright, shining within our hearts! May it always radiate Christ only, so others can come to the light.
