My Help

January 30, 2025

Scripture:  Psalms 121:1 - I will lift up my eyes to the hills— from whence comes my help.

While I was on vacation, I locked my keys in my car.  I found myself in desperate need of God’s help.  My son, Micah, reminded me of the roadside assistance protection plan.  When I called them, they said that I have to wait a while because help was on the way.  Because God is the source of my help, He answered my prayer that day by giving me the money to purchase the roadside assistance protection plan.  I thanked God for helping me in my time of need.  Just as the Jews who traveled through the lonely country, Psalms 121 is called “the pilgrim’s psalms” as they journeyed to Jerusalem to the temple for the annual feasts for worship and to celebrate.  As they traveled, they had to look up to God, the creator of heaven and earth, the one who made the hills/mountains.  I will look to the hills, indicated that they continually needed and depended on Jehovah for their help. (Psalms 124:8, Isaiah 41:13)  They looked up with great expectation and anticipation --  with a strong confidence in God for who He is and what He is able to do for His people.  They had divine assurance that God would help them, and keep them --  because God is our provider and he is omnipotent!  He has power to uphold them and sustain them.  (Psalms 55:22, Psalms 16:8)  As the Jews traveled, there was the possibility of thieves or other things that could harm them.  God protected them and secured their lives from the enemy.  (Psalms18:2, Psalms 91:1-7)  We have to choose, by the volition of our will, to look up to God; but sometimes we often chose to look down in self pity or at the circumstance rather gazing upward to our omnipotent God – our heavenly father – who has all power to deliver us in the time of trouble.  (Psalms 46:1) Jehovah Jireh is my help, and He provides all of my needs.

Prayer:  Dear Father, I thank You for never leaving us nor forsaking us.  You are our eternal security and our help -- no matter what challenges may come our way.  You are always watching over us.  Help us to continue to trust You, to worship You, and to obey You.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
