Giving Glory to God

Scripture:  Luke 2:8-14 and 20 -  Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!  20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.

It is imperative that we as believers give God all glory and honor for who He is!  One of the greatest events in history was the announcement of the birth of the Messiah by the Angel of the Lord.  (Luke 2:11-  For there is born to you this day in the City of David a Savior who is Christ the Lord.  The angel with the multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying glory to God in the highest – and on earth peace, good will toward men.)  Glory means to give honor, worship, praise to Almighty God.  The angel and the multitude of the heavenly host praised God and gave Him glory.  The shepherds also went out glorifying/praising God.  They spread the good news that Jesus the Messiah was born in Bethlehem.  The message came to the humble shepherds – the good news about Jesus to all people that the Messiah would bring peace.  He would offer them more than a temporary, political or physical change; but He would pay the price for their sins and give them a new life spiritually which would last for all eternity.  As believers in Jesus Christ, we have the same responsibility -- to give God all of the glory for our salvation and to proclaim the good news of Jesus Christ to all of the world.  (Matthew 24:14 - And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Matthew 28:18-20 -  And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.)  As we look into the future at the throne room of Heaven, we get a glimpse of the four living creatures in Revelation 4:8-11 that do not rest day or night saying Holy, Holy Holy, Lord God Almighty – who was and is and is to come!  The living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne – who live forever and ever!  Then the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sit on the throne and worship Him who live forever and ever – and they cast their crowns before the throne saying you are worthy O Lord to receive glory and honor and power for you created all things and by you will they exist and were created.  For that we also give you thanks!  All glory, honor and power and praise to the one who sits on the throne -- our Lord God Almighty!  As we behold that worship scene in Heaven, we also know that the Bible says that every knee shall bow of those in Heaven and of those in earth and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:9-11).  (Isaiah 43:7 - Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.)  Remember, we were created to give all of the glory to God.

Prayer:  Father we humble our hearts and bow down to worship You and to give You all of the glory and honor and praise for who You are.  You deserve all of it because there is no one like You.  You are unique in all of Your ways.  We thank You for Jesus the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
