A Living Hope

Scripture:  I Peter 1:3-5 - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

People are hoping for many different things.  Some say they are hoping that they will win the lottery, and they think they will be set for life.  As believers in Jesus Christ we know that is a false hope.  In the word of God, we see Peter in the passage of scripture giving comfort and a living hope to the Jewish Christians who were under persecution for their faith in Jesus Christ.  Peter described a living hope – i.e., resting in the full assurance and confidence in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Peter offered words of joy and hope in times of trouble in the Christian life.  It’s about what God has done for us in Christ Jesus. We have a living hope – of eternal life with Christ now and forevermore. We can be optimistic of our hope because it comes from God not from man or the world.  We have assurance of promises from God, which are secured through our personal relationship with Jesus Christ!  (Hebrews 6:19 -This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil.)  Our hope is a secured immovable anchor in our soul.  It will not slip or break down under the storms of life.  It will hold/keep you because it is a sure thing – steadfast hope that is anchored in Jesus Christ – and Christ alone.  We have an inheritance that is incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away – reserved in Heaven for us (those who are kept by the power of God through faith/salvation to be revealed in these last times.  Hope grows in us as we learn all that God has in mind for us.  He gives us the promise of a glorious future with Christ Jesus.

(Romans 15:4 -  For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.)  We should look forward to Christ’ wonderful return with eager expectation and hope.  (Titus 2:13 -  looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.)  Because of the living hope I have in Jesus Christ, now I can rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:6 - For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.)  Remember, hope is:  H (holding), O (on), to a  P (powerful), E (expectation)!!! One of my favorite hymns says: “My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.  I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but holy lean on Jesus’ name.  On Christ the solid rock I stand.  All other ground is sinking sand.  All other ground is sinking sand.”  \o/

Prayer:  Great/Heavenly Father:  I thank you for the living hope that we have in Christ Jesus.  Whatever I have to go through in this life, I know that I have hope because of You!  Help me to share the good news of this living hope wherever I go!  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.

Thank God for a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. A hope that is even now made real in us. This reality is eternal! Jesus lives forevermore! Good news: We shall see Jesus face-to-face someday! What a blessed hope indeed!
