Striving Against Backsliding in Heart

Scripture: Proverbs 14:14 - The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, but a good man will be satisfied from above
.
Warning Signs of Backsliding in Heart:
  • One can heedlessly (not giving attention to the risks or difficulty of consequences) fall into this state because it:
  • Makes us think that we are justified in our actions.
  • Encourages us to serve today's idols of this world.
  • Attracts the weak areas in us. Attracts the strengths as well, which lead to pride.
  • Develops slackness in our personal prayer life and/or praying for others.
  • Allows the "Martha syndrome" of being too busy.
  • Offers forsaking more often the assembling of one another.

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings. — Jeremiah 17:9-10.

However, 1st John 1:9 declares: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We must remember that there is no power in our flesh to live holy. Whenever we do slide back, we repent, ask God to forgive us, and then live as forgiven people. When God corrects us, He demonstrates proof of His continued love for us. We need to ask, "What are you teaching me, Lord?" In the process, we grow in both faith and discipleship.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the forgiveness of my sin, not only positional, but also in my daily walk of sanctification in Christ Jesus.
