The Greatness of Christ's Sacrifice

Title: The Greatness of Christ's Sacrifice

Scripture: Hebrews 9:27-28 — And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.
People die physically, but Christ died so that we may live spiritually. Believers in Christ have wonderful confidence in His saving work. When Jesus died on the cross, He sacrificed Himself once for all (Hebrews 9:26). God has given us His Holy Spirit to help us deal with our present sin. Christ freed us from the slavery of sin. He appears now in heaven in the presence of God as our High Priest (Hebrews 9:24). Jesus promises to return and raise us to a place where sin will be banished. This will be a place for the redeemed of God who wait for Him. Those who know the joy of salvation should also know the hope of Christ's appearance.

Life is attained through death. Jesus died for us so that we can have everlasting life with Him now, and the capability to die to sin. As we yield to the Holy Spirit, we crucify the flesh daily to live lives controlled by Him and no longer to ourselves. We realize that the Christian life is to be lived not in our own strength, but through God's power. All who receive Jesus as Savior can live eternally forgiven and freed from the power of sin. Those areas where the flesh fights against the Spirit are where God transforms/conforms us into the image of His dear Son. The flesh will always be with us until it is eradicated when we receive our brand-new bodies. God's laws are in our hearts and minds. He is our Counselor. We have a better hope.

Hebrews 7:18-19 — For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. He will guide and lead us until we see Him face-to-face. Through the Spirit and by obeying God's written Word, we can love God, serve others, and tell others about our Messiah. We know and appreciate Christ for who He is. We can do away with our own wills. We are the redeemed of the Lord growing in grace and depending solely on the mercy of God.
Prayer: Thank you, Jesus, for dying for our sins. Please help us to die to our sin nature daily and totally live only for you.
