Scripture: 2 Kings 6:8-23 [READ]
Background: God made certain that a prophet was living during the reign of each of the kings of Israel. Most of the kings rejected the prophets God sent, but at least God had given them the opportunity to listen and obey. Elisha prophesied only what God told him to say, no matter how unpopular. In earlier years, judges and priests had the role of prophets. Elisha was a true prophet of God for over 50 years (848-797 B.C.) to the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Elisha ministered during the reign of four kings and impacted four major nations: Israel, Judah, Moab, and Syria.
Elisha’s task was to communicate God’s laws and plans to the king. We too need to listen and obey the words of the LORD. [Hebrews 1:1-2, 2:1 & 3:12]. Elisha helped ordinary people, the low as well as the powerful.
Knowing what God can do and relying on Him to fight our battles work together. This awards us peace. God is the Lord of hosts! The battle actually belongs to Him. No prayer, no power.
We need not be intimidated by what we can see with our natural eyes. Those who call on the LORD are not disappointed in Him. God is concerned about the faith of His people. His servant needed to see for himself. PRAY and cry out to heaven. Humble your heart before the Lord. Prayer is a means for God’s intervention.
Those who reject the Word of God are headed for disillusionment. Unbelief and/or pride are against God and His anointed.
Centuries later, when Jesus told the religious leaders about their unbelief, He used the healing of leprosy of a Syrian captain, Naaman, as a warning. Naaman preferred first to get into the "wrong water" in Damascus. He then humbled himself, went and washed in the Jordan seven times as the man of God instructed him, and his flesh was restored like a little child (2 Kings 5:1-19).
Faith reveals that God does much more for His people than one can ever realize through sight alone.
Combine obedience of the Word plus earnest prayer, and God will reveal Himself in our life beyond our expectations.
God’s people are to be different from the world. We are to be a light to others. God is working behind the scenes. Sow seeds and let the Lord save.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you that we can be led and protected by you. Help us always depend upon you so we may gain available peace from you.
