I Heard, But Oh, Now I See
Scripture: Job 2:3 - Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause."
God had foreknowledge of Job's true faith. Satan was allowed to work behind the scenes. After Job's possessions and children were gone and before his physical health was attacked, God's description of Job's character was told. When Job was at a point of despair, God then answered Job showing Job His great power and wisdom by asking him various questions which Job could not answer.
Job's Repentant Response - READ Job 42:1-6
Road Of Reasoning - Fixed-Mindset (Job 13:15). Prior to God answering him, Job misunderstood God's silence as rejection. It was not Job's suffering that bothered him as much as the "apparent rejection." Sometimes, on the road of reasoning, we can strongly believe with all of our hearts that God is working in a particular way. However, believing it does not make it correct, or change God's definite will or plans for our best interest. Job did not use what he did not understand as a "lack of faith" or else an excuse to sin against God. Job did not allow his suffering to drive a wedge of disbelief between him and God. Do not blame God, but rather seek Him. God is still in total control when unexpected and/or devastating incidents happen. Applying this truth brings God's peace to our hearts. Job's greatest trial was not being able to understand why God allowed him to suffer. Job allowed his desire to understand why he was suffering, overwhelm him - which made him question God's Sovereignty. God works however He chooses, so that we grow and serve Him better. Only God knows exactly why things happen as they do. Job's friends had to repent of taking true principles and applying them wrongly in Job's case. Job's friends spoke wrong about God. They did not know God's purpose for his suffering either. Job was instructed to pray for his friends at the end of the book. When you know God for who He is, regardless of how people misjudge you - obey God when directed.
Road Of Expectancy - Confronted with the impressive power and majesty of God, Job fell in humble reverence before God speechless. He submitted to God as Sovereign - God's all power and authority over his life. Job was renowned for his wisdom and relationship with God because he had built a life on God - a foundation which endured. There will always be something new to learn about God and us, regardless of how much we think we might know. We can trust Him for who He is - not what He does or allows.
Road of Astonishment - God restored Job and gave him much more than He had before, and most importantly, Job had a deeper knowledge concerning God as Sovereign.
Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, I ask that you help me to see you much better than I do. In Jesus' name, Amen.
