Ark of Safety

Scripture: Genesis 6:13-18

"And God said to Noah, 'The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make yourself an ark of gopherwood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it inside and outside with pitch. And this is how you shall make it: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You shall make a window for the ark, and you shall finish it to a cubit from above; and set the door of the ark in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third decks. And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons' wives with you.'"

We are living in a fallen and corrupt world filled with violence before a Holy God. In the days of Noah, God had to destroy people except for Noah and his family. The meaning of Noah's name is rest and comfort. God saved Noah and his family from the flood, and they rested securely in the ark that was provided by God. The Bible says Noah found grace (God's favor) in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:8) The Bible also says Noah was a just man, i.e., mature or well-rounded—not that he was sinless (Genesis 6:9). Noah walked with God (Genesis 6:8). What does it mean to walk with God?

  • Noah walked in a personal, intimate relationship and fellowship with God. He worshipped God, called on God, and believed in God.
  • Noah obeyed God (Genesis 6:22). He was faithful to God.
  • He was a preacher of God's righteousness. (II Peter 2:5)

God's judgment came by the flood to destroy the wickedness of man's sins. God made a covenant with Noah and his family, and God told Noah to bring two of every living thing of all flesh on the ark. They shall be male and female, and God made a promise to secure their lives in the ark. As Christians, we are now seeing the sin, wickedness, and corruption of our days. We know that the same God of Noah's time will send judgment on all those who reject salvation, Jesus Christ, and His word. God rescued Noah and his family before His judgment came upon the people and the world, and we know that He still will judge sin. Our security and salvation are a sure thing because of God's grace that is by way of Jesus Christ. We are to be like Noah, warning people of the judgment that is to come upon the world. All born-again believers should be sharing the gospel—the good news of salvation. (II Peter 3:9, I Peter 3:15, I Corinthians 15:3-4). God also wants to use our lives for such a time as this to accomplish His purpose and plan. How do we accomplish this? We accomplish this by being:

  • Consistent in our obedience to God (I Samuel 15:22 and Micah 6:8)
  • Consistent in our close walk with God (Micah 6:8)
  • Consistent in our faithfulness to God (Matthew 25:23)
  • Consistent in preaching and teaching God's righteousness (II Timothy 3:15)
  • Consistent in our acts of worship and confessions to God (Genesis 8:20-21)

What is God's reaction to your daily walk with Him?

Prayer: Dear Father, thank you for securing our relationship with You through Your grace—the gift of our salvation by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank You for all of Your promises. (II Corinthians 1:20) In Jesus' name. Amen.
