God's Enduring Word
Scripture: Isaiah 40:6-8 - The voice said, "Cry out! And he said, what shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all its loveliness is like the flower of the field.7 The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass.8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.
This passage of scripture compares people as grass and flowers that wither away. We as humans are mortal, but God's word is eternal and unfailing. Everything we see on earth is temporal and/or fading away, but our life in Jesus Christ is eternal - will last forever in Heaven with Him (II Corinthians 4:16-18). Our focus should be totally on doing God's will and not our will. In this word we find the plan for our life now and forever. We should always make our plans centered upon God's word and His truth. When we do our own thing and make our plans without the instruction that comes from God's word, we are headed for destruction and failure. God pardoned/forgave His people of their sins in Isaiah 40:2. He also comforted His people. The Babylonian captivity was a consequence of their sins. God's plans are always what is best for our lives. As Christians we should never put all of our trust in material wealth, because it will one day fade away. (I Peter 1:24-25 - because all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, and its flower falls away,25 but the word of the Lord endures forever. Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.) Only God's word will stand forever. We should stop grasping the temporary and focus our time, money, and energy on the permanent word of God and our eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. We should see life from God's word/His point of view/perspective. It is important to make decisions based on biblical principles and according to His plan for our life -- realizing that God's word will endure forever.
Prayer: Dear God, I thank you for your word which is always a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalms 119:105) that guides me and helps me to keep focus on the things that will last forever. My greatest investment is your Kingdom, your people that will last forever, and your eternal word, which endures forever. In Jesus' name. Amen.
