God's Everlasting Love

Scripture:  Jeremiah 31:3 - The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, with lovingkindness I have drawn you.

The world we live in demonstrates a false picture of love.  All that we see through Hollywood and the entertainment world is not a true illustration of love. Some people are looking for love in all of the wrong places.  In this passage of scripture we see God demonstrating the real meaning of love to His people Israel.  God reached out to His people with kindness motivated by an everlasting love to draw them back to Him in a love relationship/fellowship.  Love is an action word.  Love is a choice which is not based on how you feel.  The question is – Where can you find true love?  God is the source of true love. His nature is to love.   (I John 4:7-8 -  Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.)  God also demonstrated His unconditional/agape’ love to all of the world when He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins.  (John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.)  When we rebel/turn away from God’s love as sinners, He still loves us.  His true love never changes for us.  He looked beyond our faults and saw our spiritual needs – which was salvation.  (Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.)

God loves all people, but He hates our sins.  (Isaiah 59:2 - But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.) (Proverbs 6:16-17 - These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17  a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood.)  Yes, a loving God will judge sin and punish those who reject His Son Jesus Christ.  They will be cast into the lake of fire.  (Revelation 20:13-15 - The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.)

We as born-again believers must remember that our self worth is based on the fact that God loves us and calls us His children.  That is our true identity.  (I John 3:1 - Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore, the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.)  There is no love that can be compared to God’s love – a love that lives in us to help us love God with all of our heart, soul, strength, mind, and to love thy neighbors as thyself.  (Luke 10:27 and Deuteronomy 6:5)  We cannot truly love God while neglecting to love those who are created in the image of God – our family members and fellow believers and also those who are in the world – even our enemies.    (I John 4:20-21 and Matthew 5:44)  Jesus said – By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples if you have love one to another.  (John 16:35)  On a scale one to ten, how much love do you have for God and others?

Remember, nothing can separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (Romans 8:37-39 -  Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.)  Aren’t you glad that God’s love is everlasting?

Dear Father:  I thank you for loving me with an unconditional love.  Help me to keep a short account of sin in my life – that I may reflect the true love of Your Son Jesus Christ.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.

Hallelujah! I can rely on the fact that since God is love, which is HIS PERSON, saints are able to have love for others by HIS Spirit. We do so in this world because God is love. This LOVE lasts forever!
