Heart of a Servant

Scripture:  John 13:12-15 - So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? 13 You call Me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.

As we read through the Bible, we realize that Jesus Christ was a true servant -- the greatest servant of all, who submitted to His Father’s will, who humbled Himself unto death – the death of the cross.  God in the flesh took the role of a slave to wash the dirt off His disciples’ feet, and He loved them all until the very end.  He even loved His enemy, Judas, who betrayed Him.  Jesus is our role model for serving (Matthew 20:28).  Jesus laid down His life as the ultimate sacrifice to pay for my sinful attitude, my selfishness, my pride, which causes me to fall flat on my face to confess my sins (I John 1:9).  Peter failed Jesus, but in his failure he turned to Jesus to be forgiven and cleansed.  Then Jesus turned Peter’s failure into success – when Peter preached one of the greatest sermons by the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:14-36).  What is important to remember in serving the Lord?  We should always make sure that we are serving with the right attitude and motive.  We must depend on Christ’ love – living in us to empower us to serve in difficult times (rather the task is big or small – in our home, church, job, or on a mission field).  We must serve the Lord with a one-another mindset – looking out for the needs of others.  Also, we should want to hear the Lord say well done thou good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, help me to yield to the Lordship of Jesus Christ -- that I may serve You and others with a faithful heart.  In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thanks for the reminder of being a servant. I pray that I will obey whatever the Master requires of me by submitting to the power of the Holy Spirit. Not working from past experiences, but out of sincere LOVE for what He has done for me and currently doing in me . Philippians 1:6 keeps me focused to serve.
