(1) A hearer/doer of the Word will be blessed by God. (James 1:25) (2 ) The other image is a person that hears the word but doesn’t apply it to his life. He walks away in disobedience to God’s Word. He deceives himself, and he won’t be blessed by God according to James 1:23-24. James emphasizes that a true believer wants to hear/do/obey God’s Word. The true heart of a believer wants to also internalize God’s Word in his daily walk/decisions. The challenge is – How do I hear the Word and walk in victory? God has equipped us with His Word. (Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.) The Word judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Also, the Word convicts us of our sins. It’s critical that we be honest with God as the Word shows us our sins. Then we can repent of our sinful habits. We won’t feel hopeless, fearful, angry, guilty, condemned/depressed. If someone is a hearer but not a doer, he will fall into the enemy’s trap. When we internalize God’s Word in our heart/life by obeying it, we are able to walk in power because of the Word and the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:1 - There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.) We have to remember that God has equipped us with a divine nature. (II Peter 1:3-4 - As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.) Also, we have Christ living in us. (Galatians 2:20 - I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.) Now you will have to choose which image you want to be reflected on your life – (1) to be a hearer/doer of the Word or (2) to hear and not obey the Word and deceive yourself and not receive God’s blessings.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: You see us for who we are – our sins and shortcomings, but you also see what we can become through a personal relationship with Your Son Jesus Christ when we obey Your instructions from the Word. Please help us to always abide in Your Word – even when it convicts/cuts us – that we may walk in victory. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

(by Pastor Robert Williams)

She was so busy serving Jesus, but she neglected to think about what should have been the priority at that moment – to slow down and sit at Jesus’ feet (like her sister Mary did. Martha was so concerned that everything was in order for Jesus. Then, Martha started feeling resentful toward her sister. She asked Jesus to tell Mary to go back to serving the Lord instead of Martha having to serve the Lord by herself. Jesus taught Martha that the number one priority was having fellowship with Him.

It is so important to serve the Lord in any way we can – at home, in at church in various ministries, but when we have so many projects/tasks to do that we don’t have time to develop our intimacy with the Lord, we are too busy. My mother used to tell me that it is better to be on several ministries and carry out responsibilities well, than to be on a lot of ministries and half do what is required or to be unorganized and do everything half way or at the last minute. Sometimes as Christians we can be so busy that we neglect spending quality time in the Word of God and prayer and don’t have time to be still and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to our hearts through God’s word. It shows immaturity and lack of discernment to over-extend ourselves beyond what the Lord has called us to do. Taking time to be in the presence of God is so necessary. Have you ever over-extended yourself with so many activities that you became worn out or frustrated? Regretfully, I sure have. I am learning that the more time I “sit at Jesus’ feet”(times of intimacy with the Lord), the more I will know exactly what He wants me to do.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for my time of sweet fellowship with You. Help me to do whatever You want me to do at this stage in my life.

(by Marsha Williams)

Within ourselves we can never overcome adversity. It’s all about allowing the Lord to transform our lives to be more like Him. (John 16:33 – These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Jesus said “Let not your heart be troubled. He told them that a place was being prepared for them, and that He would come again and would receive them to Himself. Can you imagine how His disciples felt? Jesus told His disciples that they could have peace in the midst of a storm/turmoil, and they would receive the peace He gives!

Some people think that the way to have peace is by changing your circumstance or environment – by going on a trip, or to go somewhere that is peaceful. Jesus says that He gives peace in the midst of trials, trouble, distress, turmoil, heartache or pressure. That is easy to say, but sometimes resting in the midst of trials can be extremely difficult. We can rest as we realize that Jesus Christ is working His purpose in our lives. Isaiah 26:3-4 says “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee; because he trusteth in Thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength.” Do you really believe God’s Word?

The Bible teaches us that our sin separated us from God (Isaiah 59:2) and made us God’s enemies (Colossians 1:21). Therefore, Jesus needed to come to earth as a mediator (I Timothy 2:5). God’s terms of peace are total, unconditional surrender. We have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Once we have peace with God through Jesus Christ, He wants us to experience the peace of God in our hearts. Jesus was born to earth to give us a better way than worrying or being afraid. Worrying causes anxiety to increase. When we pray to God about our problems, this causes anxiety to dissipate/decrease. Philippians 4:6-7 – says Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. As we grow in the things of the Lord, we will have peace with others.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I am so grateful that I have peace with You through Jesus Christ, and I have peace of God, which passeth all understanding – even in the midst of turmoil. Help me to continually, consistently yield, rest, depend, rely on You no matter what I am facing. Thank you for making me a new creation in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). Amen.

(Marsha Williams)

In Luke 19 the people complained against Jesus for being a guest of a man who was a sinner. Notice, Jesus did not let that stop or distract Him from reaching out to Zacchaeus. The question we need to ask ourselves is -- Are we letting people or things or Satan distract us from reaching out to lost souls? Zacchaeus was materially rich yet spiritually poor. He knew about Jesus but did not know Jesus as His personal Lord and Savior. A lot of people in the world and some in the church think they know Jesus, but they are still lost in their sins. Why? They reject Jesus and the teaching of His Word. Some of the Pharisees were religious but lost in their sins. Zacchaeus was desperate to see who Jesus was, and he received Jesus joyfully! Zacchaeus experienced joy in the presence of Jesus, and he also experienced an inward conviction of the wrong things he was doing in his life. Zacchaeus had a desire to make the necessary change in his life by giving back a portion of what he had stolen from the people. This is a true picture of repentance. Also, what was missing in Zacchaeus’ life was fulfilled by Jesus Christ. You can’t be found until you realize that you are lost. Without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, you are lost. Then Jesus said to Zacchaeus, salvation has come to this house. Jesus also said to him, the Son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Jesus’ mission was accomplished!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please help me to have a burning passion to reach out to lost souls like You did. I want to always be about Your business. (Luke 2:49) In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

(by Pastor Robert Williams)

I Corinthians 12:13 says “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.” (Romans 8:9 and Ephesians 13-14) Paul wrote that as Christians we have not received the spirit of the world. When we came to faith in Christ, that worldly spirit was replaced with the Spirit of God. through Him, we gain the ability to understand what can only be understood spiritually apart from our physical senses. God has freely revealed these things to us about His Son and the opportunity to be included in His family. He wants us to know them and trust them as being absolutely true. I Corinthians 2:6-16 describes the difference between human wisdom and God’s wisdom, Human wisdom is limited to what can be observed and worked out with human reasoning. Colossians 2:8 says “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.” On the other hand, God’s wisdom includes His plan to offer salvation through Christ’s cruxifixion, must be received and believed spiritually through God’s Holy Spirit. Without the help of the Spirit, people cannot believe what is spiritual, so they reject all spiritual truth as foolishness. The Holy Spirit illuminates to us God’s Word!

Prayer: Thank you Lord for helping me to see things more clearly because of the Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, and for forgiving me of my sin.

(by Marsha Williams)

Now I can live a holy life, be set apart to serve Christ, love Him, and love others. My life can be a witness for Christ. God has equipped us to do this by the power of the message of the cross -- Jesus Christ’ death, burial, and resurrection power, which is living in us. (Galatians 2:20) Paul said to Jews the message of the cross it is a stumbling block and unto the Greek it is foolishness. To those who are saved, it is the power of God. (I Corinthians 1:18) So now as born-again believers, we can proclaim the good news (the message of the power of the cross) to a dying world who needs a living Savior -- the Lord Jesus Christ. Now we are to go and share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone!! (Mark 16:15)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for dying on the cross for my sin. Please help me to yield to the power of the cross that my life will make a difference in my home, community, church, job, and wherever I may go. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Pastor Robert Williams)

He is suffering from a deadly mistake – wrong choice. It is amazing that while Jesus was in excruciating pain/torment and agony, He had a heart, mind, and will to pray for others. One thief who suffered on the cross by the power of the Holy Spirit repented of his sin and asked for forgiveness of his sins. He had a repentant heart. While the disciples were abandoning the Lord, this man believed on Jesus and was forgiven of his sins. The other thief rejected Jesus, and joined in with some of the crowd in insulting the Savior of the world (Matthew 27:44). He saw the world get dark. He heard the testimony of the Son of Man/God. Regardless, he refused to submit to the only one who could save/forgive him.
We learn from the forgiven thief that we all are in need of A Savior. We definitely are in need of salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast”. Acts 4:12 says “ Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Those who are lost are still invited to come to Jesus. Revelation 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 22:17 – “And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.” John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for redeeming us by the blood of the Lamb! Now that we have been redeemed, please help us to make right choices daily. We are so thankful for all that You have done for us. In Jesus’ name. Many people hated Christ and, therefore, hated the disciples too. The world hates true believers today.
Regardless of what Christ was going through, He loved the disciples and prayed to the Father for them. No matter what we are currently facing, it is so comforting to know that Christ Himself prays for us as true believers!! John 17:20a says - Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word.

In this Christian walk/life, our trials/circumstances can be so overwhelming at times, but God’s grace is sufficient. (II Corinthians 12:9-10 - And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.) The Lord is praying for us that we will be kept so that we will fulfill our duties, responsibilities, and purpose for our lives. He is praying that we will be kept from evil in this world and be kept from evil from our own hearts. The Lord wants us to adhere to the moral/ethical principles set forth in the Word of God. We are to take serious our walk with the Lord -- how we treat/forgive others, and our responsibility to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. There have been times in my life when I have felt so burdened down/discourages, but the Lord kept me. He encouraged me, and He set me free! There are times when you will have to encourage yourself in the Lord! Hold on to God’s unchanging hands. Don’t give up. Continue to trust the Lord. He won’t put more on you than you can bear! (I Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. ) Psalms 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Remember, He is continually praying for you. (Romans 8:34b - It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.) The Holy Spirit is interceding for you!! Romans 8:26-27 says Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. Continue to do what the Lord has called you to do.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for loving me, for forgiving me, and for praying for us. Help me, no matter how busy I am, to take time to pray, read/study Your Word, and purpose in my heart to apply Your Word in my life.

(by Marsha Williams)

Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. 7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.) 9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Her life was transformed, and she told others about the Messiah – Jesus Christ! Many others believed on Jesus, and their lives were changed because of the woman’s testimony!
Now that our lives are being changed, let’s continue to tell others about our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ wherever we go! Mark 16:15 – “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” Each day as I pray, I ask the Lord to show me who to witness to and what to say. Please lead me and guide me Lord. Matthew 28:19-20 - Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward an is being renewed day by day.” The “outward man” is our physical body, which is decaying and will eventually die. Paul was referring to the normal aging process. Also, he wore himself out in ministry, plus he suffered beatings and attacks from his enemies. On the other hand, the “inward man” is being renewed day by day. The inward man is the eternal part of each believer. Ephesians 4:23-24 says “And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and holiness. Colossians 3:10 says “And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. While Paul was becoming “physically” weak and was under attack by his enemies, he experienced “spiritual” growth/success (Hebrews 11:32-45). From the moment you are born, your body is in a slow process of aging until you take your final breath on earth. If you are only aware and thinking about how much you are decaying physically as you age, you can get bitter/discouraged. When you realize and appreciate how much you are being transformed internally/eternally, you can rest and be joyous -- seeing things with the Lord’s perspective. I can remember visiting family/friends in the hospital who were on their death bed that I wanted to encourage. After our visit, I realized that they encouraged me so much. I could sense that they were resting, trusting in the Lord, and they were not focusing on their illness. That’s so amazing to me!

II Corinthians 4:17 says “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.” Our most extreme difficulties in this life, which may be unbearable at times are light and short-lived compared to the heavy-weighted rewards that will last forever in eternity! Wow! Can you even imagine that truth!
II Corinthians 4:18 says “While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things that are not seen are eternal.” I’m asking the Lord to help me look past what is temporary/perishing (the things of this world), and look/focus on things that are not seen (that are eternal). Pursuing, seeking, focusing on the Lord Jesus Christ consistently reading/studying God’s word, and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ should be so important to us as believers.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: As I am aging, help me to keep my focus on You – and not lose heart. Just as I need food for my physical body, help me to continue to desire food for my soul (the precious word of God -- the Bible). All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)

Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.” The question in I Corinthians 1:20 is “Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age?” God is always smarter than man. Everything that man has, God has given to him. Pride of the heart always causes man to think he knows everything apart from God. Jeremiah 9:23-24 says “Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”

To have a personal relationship with Christ, you must believe the message of the cross – Christ crucified. II Corinthians 2:4 says “For out of much affliction and anguish of heart I wrote unto you with many tears; not that ye should be grieved, but that ye might know the love which I have more abundantly unto you. ”The message of the cross never changes. People change, nations, change, but the message of the cross should never be watered down or compromised. It remains the same forever. John 14:6 says “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” Aren’t you glad that you believe the message of the cross! Ephesians 1:13 – “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” Romans 10:3 - For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.” Where would we be without the message of the cross? Colossians 1:13-14 – “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” All of our sins were paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. Our past, present, and future sins were nailed to the cross. Now we are free to live for Him, serve Him, and love Him and others!
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you for dying on the cross for our sins. The message of the cross is transforming my life. Now I am free to live for You. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. When we give the devil a foothold into our lives, he takes a stronghold. If you give Satan control of a small part of your life, he will soon try to take over more and more of your life. Ephesians 4:26b-27 gives the best way to deal with our negative emotions. We have to make a choice to confess our sins right away.

I saw a You Tube video of two gazelles who were so busy locking horns/fighting with each other. Really far in the distance was a lion who was steadily/quickly approaching the gazelles. They didn’t notice the lion, because they were aggressively fighting each other. Unfortunately, the lion devoured one of the gazelles, and the other one I am sure was terrified. I posted the You Tube video on my Facebook page. That’s the way it is with some Christians sometimes -- so involved in fighting their sisters and brothers in Christ that they don’t notice their real enemy (the devil) approaching them to devour or cripple them. Remember Ephesians 6:12 says “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against the spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places.” I Peter 5:8 says “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.”

My desire/choice is to quickly/immediately deal with my negative emotions so that they will not become strongholds in my life – by confessing my sins to the Lord and turning away from them.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Help me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to make right choices; but when I sin and/or have negative emotions, help me to confess it right away -- and not give place to the devil so that he will not have a foothold/stronghold (further advancement in my life). All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)

Luke in the book of Acts used the term for unmovable to describe Paul being shipwrecked in Acts 27:41. Acts 27:41 says “And falling into a place where two seas met, they ran the ship aground; and the forepart stuck fast, and remained unmoveable, but the hinder part was broken with the violence of the waves.” Paul said that he experienced all kinds of trouble and challenges of this life. He said nothing would move him or stop him from finishing His work in the ministry. Matthew 20:28 – “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” We are to ask God to strengthen us as we serve Him. Nehemiah 6:9 - For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my hands. Hebrews 6:10 - For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Although we may not immediately see the reward for our good doings, they will come in God’s timing. Do not give up. Keep pressing on by faith and confidence in God.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Help us to serve You with our whole heart as to the Lord and not unto men as it says in Colossians 3:23. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)

Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. 13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 14 Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress. 15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only. 16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities. 17 Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account. 18 Indeed I have all and abound. This has affected communities, our families and our very way of life. Many people don’t have sufficient income to endure this crucial unexpected outbreak. The Lord is truly getting everyone’s attention – whether they are Christians or not. At this time, it is so important that we constantly wash our hands (which we should have always been doing), and practice social distancing to slow down the spread of this highly contagious virus. It is my prayer that those not saved will invite Jesus Christ their lives, and those who are saved, will draw closer to the Lord. It’s a time of self-examination for sure.
II Chronicles 7:14b says “For my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

We are to number our days – realizing that time as we know it is short/running out. Just think – the Lord could return very soon. It is time to really think about what is really important in our lives. As Pastor Cockrell has said many times – we should be policing our minds. We should think about what we thinking about. What is the seed motivation for what we do? What are our priorities in life right now? Are we keeping a short account of sins? Is Jesus really our first priority? When we are thinking about something that doesn’t please the Lord, we have to learn to stop the recorder in our mind. Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Are you really praying and asking the Lord to direct your path (Proverbs 3:5-6)? Or do you live your life any way you feel like it? I am learning that there are some things I have to do. There are some things I want to do. There are some things I just can do. I have to see things according to the Lord’s perspective.

While there are many things we can’t do right now, there are many things we can do and should be faithfully doing. We should be spending as much time as we can with our family within our homes, and also communicating with our family/friends who are not in our homes. We should be encouraging/helpful – being sensitive to what others are encountering. We should be keeping our minds stayed on Jesus so that we can have perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Do you believe that God has everything in control? We should be reading/studying the Word. We should never lose hope or give up, because the Lord is our refuge. Psalms 62:5-8 says My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah. The Lord has promised that He will be with us. He will never leave us (Matthew 28:20)!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for being my Savior and Lord, and my refuge and strength! With all of the responsibilities and things on my mind, help me to keep You as the number one priority – numbering my days and directing my path. All this I pray in Jesus’ name.

(by Marsha Williams)

Some of those times were: when I had several operations to remove precancerous cells; when my son, Shaun, was killed; when a close friend of my family, Michelle Wilson, committed suicide; when I kept getting shingles, and now I have to take shingles meds for the rest of my life; when my parents passed less than six weeks a part; when my sister, Andrea, had to have surgery to remove cancerous tumors, and had to have several discs in her neck removed; and when my mother-in-law, Victoria Shepherd passed. If it wasn’t for me having a personal relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – and therefore the Holy Spring strengthening me during those times of discouragement, testing, fear, stress/pain, I probably would have had a nervous breakdown -- especially when my son, Shaun, was killed. We never know what we will be facing regarding trials, but I know the Lord will see us through. God is my all in all!!

God Is (by Walter Hawkins):
God is my protection.
God is my all in all.
God is my light in darkness.
God is my all in all.
God is my today and tomorrow.
God is my all in all
God is my joy in times of sorrow.
God is my all in all.
God is the joy and the strength of my life.
He moves all pain, misery, and strife.
He promised to keep me – never to leave me.
Never, never come short of His Word.
I’ve got to fast and pray – stay in the narrow way
Keep my life clean every day
I want to go with Him when He comes back.
I’ve come too far, and I’ll never turn back.
God is, God is, God is, God is.
God is my all in all!!!!! \o//

When the Israelites passed through the Red Sea, they said “The Lord is my strength and my song (Exodus 15:2). Psalms 27:1 says “the Lord is my light and my salvation. Therefore, I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ sake: for when I am weak then I am strong.

Prayer: Heavenly Father: I am thankful that I have a personal relationship with You, and that Your Holy Spirit is indwelled within me. I am so appreciative that I can draw upon Your strength. No matter what I am facing in my life, help me to always depend on, rely on, trust in You. I trust that You will always give me strength as it says in Your word. But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”
Can you imagine depending on the Lord to the point of having to be put in a burning/fiery furnace for not obeying a worldly king? What a model/example Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego are for us about depending/trusting in God – the one true God! What would you do if you were in that exact situation?

As believers, we know that God is able to deliver us. Romans five tells us that God may allow trials and difficult circumstances in our lives to strengthen our faith, or build our character. Sometimes I don’t understand the purpose of my trials, but I am learning to trust the Lord in the midst of the trials – even when the trials are extremely difficult. Job, who suffered in many different ways, was still able to say “Though He may slay me, yet will I hope (depend/trust) Him (Job 13:15), God does not always guarantee that we will never suffer, but He promises to be with us (Isaiah 43:2, Hebrews 13:5b). In times of trials, our attitude should be like Meshach, Shadrach and Abed-Nego. As we consistently depend on the Lord in circumstances, when we have to deal with an enormous/difficult trial, by the power of the Holy Spirit, we can have victory! Jesus Himself said “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but can’t kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell (Matthew 10:28). Even if Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego thought they had to suffer by burning to a crisp in the furnace, they would have refused to worship an idol. Many believers over the centuries have depended on God and were martyrs.

What a testimony! Even if we depend on the Lord, and as a result die from taking a stand the for Lord, as Christians we will be with the Lord for eternity!!! Our hope and encouragement in dealing with persecution, illness or pain in this life is knowing that this life is not the end!!! There is life after death. Eternal life is a promise, which enables us to live above pain, suffering and persecution – as we are depending on the Lord (John 3:16, Romans 8:18)

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: We don’t know what we will experience in this life, but we know that you are with us. Help us to always depend on You. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)

Can you relate to how they felt? Have you ever gotten discouraged as you waited on the Lord for something for many years? One minute you felt encouraged, and the next minute you doubted what the Lord would do. Isaiah 40:29-31 says “ He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” God sent Hagai and Zechariah to encourage the workers – and the temple was finally rebuilt and used by the Lord Jesus Christ! The ultimate example of perseverance was when Jesus Christ suffered and died on the cross for our sins. We can’t even imagine all that the Lord went through as His life was sacrificed for us. Let us follow His example by presenting our body as a living sacrifice and not being conformed to this world. Romans 12:1-2 says “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Instead of viewing problems as obstacles or getting discouraged, we should use them as opportunities to praise God -- who works all things out for our good. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” While discouragement and worrying drains us, perseverance and praising the Lord encourages us!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank You for Your ultimate example of perseverance as you died on the cross for our sins. Help us to keep our eyes stayed on You, and never give up no matter what we are facing. Help us to rest in Your promises, and help us to praise and worship you in the midst of whatever we are dealing with. All this I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)

In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.
Romans 5:3-4 - And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope.
James 1:2-4 - My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Everyone has dealt with or deals with sadness/tribulation in their lives. For some, sadness (whether it be from trials, illness, disappointment), lingers on a long time, and sometimes sadness is turned to rejoicing or joy – as we rest in the Lord. The Lord will not allow/put on us more than we can bear, and His grace is sufficient (I Corinthians 10:13, II Corinthians 12:9-10). He is sovereign and in control. We may not understand what we are going through, but we have to trust, believe, and know that the Lord can and will work things out for us – according to His perfect will. From James 1:2-4, James isn’t saying we are to rejoice over pain, but we should rejoice because God’s purposes are being accomplished in our lives. We have to learn to look at our circumstances/challenges from God’s perspective and realize that a trial is not a happy experience, but God produces something of great value in our lives when we go through our challenges.

I was hospitalized from Friday, February 15th to February 17 (2019). I had been having heaviness in my chest for several weeks. After several tests, the doctors/cardiologist said that fluid was around my heart, my heart was enlarged, I was dehydrated, my thyroid level was too high and my thyroid dosage had to be increased, and my kidney level was higher than usual. Also, they wanted to make sure I didn’t have clots on my lungs. My blood pressure wasn’t high, but was pulse was between 107-110 for several days. Then I was informed that if the fluid didn’t go way in one month, I would have to have a procedure to remove the fluid by inserting a needle in my chest. That was a lot for me to hear at one time. I kept praying and believing that the Lord (Jehovah Rophe) would heal me. Then I was overwhelmed for a while. I thought about how my mother had several heart diseases, and how she had to carry around an oxygen tank for three years. Then recently, a Christian singer on “The Voice” (Janice Freeman) just passed, and she was only 33 years old. She previously had cervical cancer, lupus, bronchitis, and she had blood clots which traveled to her heart. Many scriptures came to my mind -- some of which are Jeremiah 31:13b, John 16:33, Romans 5:3-4, James 1:2-4. These scriptures are so encouraging to me!

I am not afraid to die, but I am believing that the Lord will heal me. I won’t give up. At the same time, I know “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). Also, it is very comforting to know that “ For we walk by faith, not by sight. 8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord” (II Corinthians 5:7-8). My life is in the hand of my sovereign and awesome Lord Jesus Christ!!
Robert and I have been talking about how so many positive things came out my experience with this recent illness while I was hospitalized and after I was released from the hospital. Many tracts were given out while I was hospitalized. I had to allow the Lord to stabilize my thoughts over a period of time (II Corinthians 10:5). My thyroid medication was increased. The next time I was supposed to have the TSH blood test was in four months when I had my next complete physical examination. I am now drinking six 16.9 ounces bottles of water per day instead of only two bottles of water, which is very helpful to me. I have changed my eating habits even more, and I am getting more rest. I am learning more and more about resting in the Lord through trials. It is so amazing how the Lord encourages me as I am reading, studying/meditating on His word and consistently praying!!

When I went to see my cardiologist one month after I was released from the hospital, the EKG results was very good! The result of the Echocardiogram was that the fluid around my heart is almost gone, and I don’t have an enlarged heart! I am still taking pain medication, but I’m taking it less often. I have an appointment to see the cardiologist in three months. Thank you Lord!! You are my Jehovah Rophe!!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father: Thank you Lord for the things that I have learned while going through this illness/trial. Thank you so much for turning my sadness into rejoicing!!! In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

(by Marsha Williams)
