Expectations
Scripture: Psalms 62:5-8 - My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
In December of 2018, was the beginning of the partial Government Shutdown. Many peoples’ lives were affected. They were disappointed and had a low expectation in the United States Government. Lessons can be learned from this Government Shutdown. We as Christians cannot put all of our trust and expectation in the affairs of men/women. We must put all of our trust, confidence, and expectation in God and God alone – because of our relationship with God through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. God doesn’t change up on us like man does. God will never disappoint us or fail us. He is completely trustworthy. Yes, we will be tested, and we will experience storms in our lives. We are to respond like David in Psalms 62:5. Our expectation has to be in God. David’s expectation was in God’s character. We have to trust Him for who He is. In this Psalms, God is revealed as the rock of our salvation! He is my protection and security, and I can depend on Him – because He is powerful and faithful to all of His promises. I can stand on Christ the solid rock, and all others ground is sinking sand. (Psalms 61:2 - From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I ) (I Corinthians 10:4 - And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.) Human strength will fail us. We are to rest in God’s strength alone, and nothing can shake/move us. (Psalms 46:1-7 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;3 Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4 There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High. 5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. 6 The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.7 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. ) (Psalms 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.) In Psalms 62:8b we are to pour out our hearts before God in prayer so we can focus on God’s love, mercy, grace, and hope. We should have a high expectation of who He is, what He has done and will do for those who trust Him.
Do you have high expectations of what the Lord will do for you right now and for years to come? (Philippians 1:20 - According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.) He is our hope!
Prayer: Dear God: You are the rock of our salvation that we can run to and find peace in the midst of trouble or disappointment, because You are greater than our trouble. Our expectation can rest on Your character. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

I'm so grateful that Jesus will NEVER disappoint me. Therefore, I may continue to trust in Him and His leadership.
